5 ways to celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is on 22 April and it’s a big event celebrated all around the world. It’s one of my favourite days of the year. Here are five ways that you can celebrate Earth Day at your place!

  1. Make yummy earth balls

These yummy earth balls are a tasty snack to enjoy on Earth Day. They are fun and easy to make. I’ll be making these at home in dirtgirlworld. Yum yum!

2. Sing “little things”

It’s not what we do just on Earth Day that matters…it’s the little things we do every day that matter. That’s what my song “little things” is all about. Sing along with me!

Here are the song words.

3. make a nature mandala

Another special way to celebrate Earth Day is to go outside and make a mandala with things collected from nature. The word mandala means ‘circle’. Mandala patterns are all around you in flowers and nature, but you can also create your own!

Watch our Go Wild for Maths ‘mandala’ episode on iView to see how to create one.

Find a peaceful and quiet place to make your mandala. To get started, choose one special item to put in the centre. Then place your other items around it to make repeating patterns and circular layers.

When you’ve finished, take a moment to sit and look at your creation. Think about what you love about it!

4. Make your own natural playdough dyes

Have you ever coloured your playdough with natural dyes? You can make different colours with all sorts of things from nature like avocado stones, blueberries, coffee, turmeric and red cabbage. Roll your playdough into balls to make little Earths and decorate them with flowers, leaves and herbs! Here are my favourite instructions for making natural dyes for playdough from The Imagination Tree.

5. Make a nature heart

You could make a nature heart to show your love for our Earth. Take a photo and share it with someone that you love!

Watch this video to see how scrapboy and I make a nature heart.

Happy Earth Day greenthumbs!
