DIY water wall (let’s celebrate World Water Day)

Hi greenthumbs! It’s dirtgirl here.

It’s World Water Day on 22 March, so we’re going to celebrate by making a water wall!

But, first…let’s talk about water! Did you know that we don’t make water? It came with the planet! Water is ancient. We are drinking the same water that the dinosaurs drank. Amazing!

Saving water and caring for the water we have are two of my favourite things.

And World Water Day is a great time to celebrate water and think about what it means to you!

Have you ever played with a water wall? Let’s find out how to make one.

To start, find a good place outside to set up your water wall. It could be a wall, a fence, or a lattice board. It needs to be something that you can attach your containers to and something that can get wet!

Then collect things that you can use to make your water wall. This might include:

containers

bottles

funnels

tubes

cups

pipes

pieces of hose

I challenge you not to buy anything new!

See what you have in your recycling bin, in the kitchen and in the backyard that you can use. Ask your grown-ups to help you find some things.

Now it’s time to put it all together. The idea of a water wall is that you pour the water in the top and it will run down through all the different containers and tunnels until it gets to the bottom. Put a bucket or watering can at the bottom to catch it at the end!

You might like to draw and plan it first, so you know where everything will go.
