Grow a rainbow garden!
Hi greenthumbs
Guess what I saw this week?! A RAINBOW! I was out in my veggie patch after a rain shower had just passed and then…I saw it…all those beautiful colours in the sky! I ran to find scrapboy to tell him. He got really excited too. Then we talked about how a rainbow is made!
Rainbows appear when sunlight shines through water droplets in the sky. The light bends as it passes through the water in the air and this makes all the amazing colours that we see! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet…these are the seven colours of the rainbow!
Kids all over the planet have been doing rainbow chalk drawings on the pavement and putting big bright rainbows in their windows this year. It has filled me with so much joy to see! This is the start of the kid-powered rainbow revolution! Once you start filling the world with rainbows, you just can’t stop!
grow a rainbow garden
I think one of the most wonderful ways to make a rainbow is to grow a rainbow garden! If you have lots of different colours in your garden, you will also attract lots of different types of helpful insects and beautiful butterflies!
You can choose plants and flowers of all different colours to make a rainbow-filled garden. You can even plant your plants in the shape of rainbow rows! Here are some colourful ideas to get you started.
Red - tomatoes, strawberries, red lettuce
Orange - nasturtiums, calendulas, carrots
Yellow - yellow capsicums, sunflowers, sweet corn
Green - green lettuce, rocket, basil
Blue - blueberries, cornflowers, blue corn
Indigo and violet - violas, lavender, purple carrots
