It’s dirtgirl here! Did you know that World Environment Day is on 5 June? World Environment Day is a big day of taking positive change to help our planet. And it’s been happening every year around the world since 1974!
This year’s theme is reimagining, recreating and restoring our precious ecosystems. Ecosystems come in all shapes and sizes. An ecosystem can be a tiny area under a rock, or a pond or an entire rainforest! Our planet Earth is a huge ecosystem!
One of the ways that you can help look after our ecosystems and environment is by reducing, reusing and recycling. It’s up to you (and me!) to handle our rubbish with care.
“handle with care” video competition…

I challenge you to enter my “handle with care” video competition to win a dirtgirlworld prize pack! Make a 2-minute video showing how you reduce, reuse or recycle. It could be packing a plastic waste-free lunchbox in the morning, sorting your recycling into the right bin or making something out of recycled materials (like a recycled cardboard guitar!). You don’t have to talk in your video (unless you want to!).
You’ll go in the running to win a dirtgirlworld prize pack including an organic cotton scrapboy tote bag, a DIY dirtgirlworld doll and a set of dirtgirlworld party invitations. And I’ll be choosing some of the videos to feature in a brand-new music video for my “Handle with Care” song! So make sure you have permission from your grown-ups to enter.

Share your video competition entry on social media with the hashtag #dirtgirlworld #handlewithcare by 12th June or send it to me at dirtgirl@dirtgirlworld.com using a file transfer website like WeTransfer or Dropbox. Don’t send the file directly as an attachment in an email…my inbox is tiny and it won’t fit!

What exactly is the environment? The environment is made up of all living things…all people, creatures and plants and all the non-living things like sunlight, wind, rocks and sand. These join together to make our environment. A healthy environment is vital for us all. It provides the big 3! Air to breathe, food to eat and water to drink. As well as keeping us alive, the bonus is that the environment is full of beauty, wonder and amazing creatures.
Caring for our environment is a natural thing to do. The little things we do every day make a big difference to the world. Our environment rocks!
